Chalfont St Peter CC - Junior Section

We aim to promote cricket in the local community and help to develop the skills of young cricketers from the age of 6 by offering regular Saturday and Sunday morning coaching sessions at Chalfont Park during the season and winter training all run by qualified ECB coaches in a safe environment (we are ECB Clubmark accredited and all coaches are CRB-checked).

Our objectives are to:

  1. to help each young player to grow in a challenging and supportive environment
  2. to support their progression through the junior age groups and into the senior teams
  3. to have fun

The whole ground is used by the Junior section on each Saturday and Sunday in the season.

The Club enters sides in all of the Bucks Cricket Board County League and Knockout Cup Competitions from age groups Under 9 to Under 17 and  an Under 17 side in the Kookaburra Mid-Bucks  Youth League and Knockout Cup competitions.  The U9s also take part in a Kwik cricket festival.

We hope most of your initial questions will be answered on this website, but please contact Murray Scott or James Vallance for more details.

Parental Help!
If you are able or interested in helping in any way, please make yourself known to the relevant manager or coach.

All assistance will be very warmly welcomed.
Subscriptions & Registration
Click on this link Junior Subs & Registration form  to be taken to a separate page on subscriptions and registration forms

If the subscription is not paid, we will be unable to select your child for matches.

It is essential we have a completed registration form for each child.  This allows the coach to know of any relevant medical conditions, provides emergency contact details, and ensures that we have your permission for the child's participation; a new form is required each year.  For the safety of your child it is important that the club is informed of any medical condition or allergies that may be relevant should your child be involved in an accident at the club.

We will hold a registration and signing on day before the start of the season, please check the web site for more details of which date in March this will be held.

Before the start of each session, you should register your child - please be aware that we will have to turn your child away if we do not have a completed registration form.
Equipment requirements
No child will be permitted to bat in either a match or coaching situation using a hard cricket ball without a helmet, abdominal box (boys), bat, pads and gloves.  No exemptions will be given.

The club can provide this equipment, but would recommend that each player has their own abdominal box and “pouch” pants (these have a pouch that holds the box in place) – boys are seldom happy to borrow these!

When representing the club whites are preferred but are not compulsory.  Club caps and shirts can be purchased from Hawkinsports using the links on the club website – the teams look so good when all turned out with club kit.

If you are in doubt over which size of equipment to buy for your child there is a useful guide for bats, pads and helmets etc HERE:
Junior representative matches
The club have teams entered in the Bucks league and cup competitions at the following ages:

U17 (Yr 12), U15 (Yr 10), U14 (Yr 9), U13 (Yr 8),
U12 (Yr 7), U11 (Yr 6), U10 (Yr 5) and U9 (Yr 4).

When representing the club whites are preferred but are not compulsory.  Club caps and shirts can be purchased from Hawkinsports using the links on the club website – the teams look so good when all turned out with club kit.

Coaching Sessions

Chalfont St Peter Cricket Club Junior Coaching 2015

We are pleased to announce the next stage in the development of our junior section.

There are two key changes to tell you about:

  1. We are changing the days for coaching

  2. We increasing the number of qualified coaches to reduce the child to coach ratio.

Why change the day for coaching?

There are a number of reasons:

  • Last year’s Friday night barbeques showed how popular this night is for children and families alike – giving you the chance to enjoy the bar and weekly BBQ at the end of the week whilst your children are being worn out on the pitch!

  • We want to clear Sunday mornings to allow junior and women’s matches to be played then – we hope this will give more parents the chance to watch their children play as well as enjoy the wonderful surroundings on a summer’s morning.

How will you increase the number of qualified coaches?

  • The club has several well-qualified ECB coaches who have generously given their time to the club which has allowed us to reinvest subscriptions into the club but we need more to reduce the child to coach ratio

  • We have linked up with Future Legends to provide more coaches - a coaching company who provide coaching to a number of local clubs

  • This will mean we can more than double the number of ECB-qualified coaches but we will still welcome parental assistance both to manage teams and support the coaching sessions.

So when will the sessions be this year?

How will this be paid for?

  • We have kept subscriptions at the same level for the last few years, but will need to increase them this year to pay for the additional coaches

  • Subscriptions will increase to £80 for the first child, and £70 for siblings (U8 to U15) which covers all coaching and Junior match fees

  • Any Junior playing for a senior side will, continue to pay the student match fee of £6 (League) or £5 (Friendly) which includes a full cricket tea.

  • The one hour Saturday morning session for U6 and U7 will continue to be free – donations welcome!  We do ask that parents remain at the club throughout the session to offer help and support  as needed

  • U16 and U17 will pay the student rate of £60 and be coached by the Head Coach (James Vallance).

Each coaching session has a formal plan, with specific age and skill-related objectives, to support the steady development of each child whilst maintaining both interest and challenge.
